The
main and the biggest village on Dugi otok. Administrative,
economical and urbane centre of the island. It was named
after salt facilities and it was mentioned for the first
time in 1105. It is placed in the NE part of
the island, with a thousand year of fishermen tradition
(first written document is from 990 year AD and mentions

| Zaglav |

Village
3 km in the NW from Sali, placed on the plain above from
the cove of Trikule. Today Zaglav is important traffic
centre with well-protected ferryboat harbor and gas
station. It has around 2.000 inhabitants, 2 restaurants,
general store and bakery.

Village
placed in a small cove of Zmanscica. Agriculture, wine
production, gardening and other cultures are well
developed for the vicinity of the lakes Velo and Malo
Zmansko Jezero from which the villages of Zman, Luka,
Sali and Zaglav take their drinking water. There is a
post office and the doctor's, two general stores, and
a tavern in the village. You can spend a pleasant vacation
in private pensions and apartments. |

| Luka |

Village
is placed in the northern part of the island, near the
highest hill of the island, Vela Straza (338 m). Luka
was once called Sustipanska Luka after the church
of Sv. Stjepan from the 15th century. The village is almost
ideally placed, protected from all winds; it is a very
safe port. Near the village three caves with huge halls
and rich cave ornaments are discovered. The place is ideal
for guests who want to enjoy crystal-clear see and olive
tree shadows.. |

| Savar |

Village
in the centre of the island. There is a small island in
the cove, connected with the mainland with the church
of Sv. Pelegrin from 1300 AD. From that church
the baroque baptistery with glagolic inscription was transferred
to the parochial church from the 1670 AD. There used to
be a convent of the Hermit Sv. Antun the abbot with the
church of Sv. Andrija abandoned in the 16th century.
In the village there is a general store, a pension and
several private cottages. |

| Brbinj |

Village
surrounded with pine trees and olive trees, placed between
two picturesque coves. In Brbinj there is a ferryboat
harbor, ideal for tourist development as well as a
post office and a tavern. |

Vvillage
is placed in the hill, 4 km SE from Bozava, near a small
and fertile field. Nearby there is a cove of Dumboka,
protected from winds and a safe harbor for smaller
yachts. The surrounding area was inhabited in the
ancient times. There is a general store in the village.

A
nice small harbor in the NE of the island, placed by a
small field of Bozavsko polje. By some of the houses on
the shore one can see yards with stone fences and towers
for the defense from the pirates in 18th century.
Bozava is the most developed tourist village on the Dugi
Otok. It has nearly all the necessary services: the biggest
hotel complex, a post office, telephone, the doctor's
office, school, port authorities, police station, tourist
office, stores, taverns, pubs etc., all in a traditionally
tidy and quiet village, in a pleasant ambient, year after
year Bozava attracts more and more guests. |

| Soline |

One
of the oldest villages of the island. Placed in
the deep bay of Soliscica, in which from the ancient times
there have been salt fields, after which the bay was named.
On the South, on the lower part of the island, towards
high see there is a beautiful sandy cove of Saharun. In
Soline there is a general store and great possibilities
for accommodation and homemade cuisine |

| Verunić

Two
villages beautifully placed on the far NW part of the
island. Each come from its own part of the shore, connected
to the bay of Pantera by a narrow channel. The
whole area is rich with fish and suitable for nautical
tourism.
Verunic: also called Mala Verona, is a beautiful
village with a restaurant and a general store.
Veli Rat is a village with a very interesting architecture.
There are a post office, restaurants and a general store
in the village. |
